Head women’s basketball coach Justin Heinzen added two members to his coaching staff this summer, each beginning their tenure with the Duhawks this week.

Jennifer Randall, a native of Arthur, Illinois steps into the college coaching realm with her first assistant coaching position for the 2009-10 Loras College Duhawks. She will be Heinzen’s first assistant.

Randall played her college basketball at NCAA Division III Elmhurst College in Elmhurst, Illinois before graduating with a degree in Biology/Secondary Education. She has spent the past four years as a teacher in the science department at Lovington High School while coaching the girl’s varsity basketball team at nearby Arthur High School, her alma mater. Randall was the youngest basketball coach in the school’s history and led them to their first 20-win season in 2006-07 in just her second season.

Randall mentioned her passion for the game of basketball and anticipation for the beginning of the Loras season earlier today.

“The move to the college game is one I’ve been anxious to make since leaving Elmhurst College in 2004,” Randall said. “This position gives me the opportunity to pursue that dream and do it at a place with great facilities and a solid foundation for basketball set in place. Loras is a great fit for me and I’m excited about meeting the student-athletes, the rest of the Loras staff, and getting the season started.”

Randall will be working primarily with the guards and contributing to the defensive schemes for the Duhawks.

In addition to Randall, Scott Schaber also jumps on board with the Duhawks this week.

Schaber is a native of Galena, Illinois has been coaching at the high school level at Galena High School with the Pirates’ boy’s team for the last two seasons and also spent time with River Ridge High School girl’s team in Hanover, Illinois. He coached each of those teams to conference championships during his tenures at the two schools.

Schaber has a background in physical therapy and is a certified strength and conditioning specialist. He works full time as a physical therapist for Medical Associates at the Galena Clinic and now resides in Dubuque.

His role with the Duhawks will be as an assistant with the varsity team and head coach of the junior varsity squad.

Schaber described his move to Loras as, “a very fortunate opportunity.”

“I am immensely excited about being a Duhawk and I envision a very bright future for women’s basketball here at Loras College,” he added.
