As we are approaching the midpoint of summer our Duhawks have been working harder then ever to improve their individual game so that they can contribute to making the team better—which in turn, is the most important idea! Being a 2008 graduate of Loras, I have seen something in these former teammates that I have never seen in any other teammates before. These special qualities include their drive, heart, and determination for the game of basketball, working on their own on and off the court to improve their game, simply being great friends that you feel comfortable around on and off the court, and much more qualities that build our team chemistry at a level higher then any other team.

Each of the players has their own individualized work-out that helps them work on the area in which they may need improvement on. All work-outs include some form of running, lifting, and of course shooting!!! Our Duhawks are well aware of the work ethic that it takes to be successful.

Most of are Chicago area girls participate in the Elmhurst Summer League. They play three times a week against some great competition anywhere from D3 players to D1 players. It is a great way for the girls to continue building chemistry with the team as well as keeping fresh on their full court game. If you get a chance and you are familiar with the area check out a game, here are the following games that are left:

  • · Monday, July 7th @ 8:00p.m. Court 1 vs. Benedictine
  • · Tuesday, July 8th @ 9:00p.m. Court 1 vs. Aurora
  • · Thursday, July 10th @ 7:00p.m. Court 2 vs. Sky
  • · Monday, July 14th @ 7:00p.m. Court 2 vs. Lake Forest

If you have any questions about anything shoot one of the coaches an e-mail or give us a call—we would be happy to help! Hope you can make it!

Finally, another unique feature of our team is we can meet up while school is out of session and continue hanging out and having a good time! August 31st we are running a 10K as a team in Chicago—great way to meet the team early on!!! It is a huge Nike sponsored event, only $35 bucks you get to donate a portion to the organization of your choice, for instance I am a fan of Lance Armstrong so I donated to the Livestrong Foundation. I know you are probably thinking that you cannot run that much but it is only 6 miles—you can do it!! Still lots of time to train!
